Meet Ivinson's new Clinical Director, Emergency Department
Kelsey Rauer, a registered nurse, has worked in Ivinson’s Emergency Department for nearly a decade. Now, she’s stepping into a new role as Clinical Director, where she will help lead the department she’s called home since the very beginning of her nursing career.
Born and raised in Laramie, Kelsey started as a new graduate nurse in the Emergency Department. Over the years, she’s taken on many roles within the unit, including Clinical Supervisor, Interim Director and now, Clinical Director. Through each position, she has remained focused on providing world-class healthcare to patients and supporting her team.
“Caring for the community I grew up in means everything to me,” Kelsey said. “It gives me a sense of purpose to tailor our care to meet the unique challenges our neighbors face. Being a familiar face during high-stress moments is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.”
Her connection to Ivinson began during her senior capstone in the Emergency Department, where she says she was immediately welcomed and mentored.
“I stayed at Ivinson because of the deep sense of family here,” she said. “During my capstone, I knew right away that this was the team I wanted to grow with. Every day in the ED is different, and each one brings a new opportunity to connect with patients and ease their stress”.
Kelsey has a passion for the emergency setting. She enjoys the fast pace, the variety of patients and cases, and the opportunity to be there for people during some of the hardest moments in their lives.
“I love the variation the ED brings,” she said. “Most of all, I love making a difference for people who may be experiencing their worst day.”
In her time at Ivinson, Kelsey has contributed to numerous department-wide initiatives and process improvement efforts. Most recently, she helped coordinate the Emergency Department remodel, working closely with the facilities department and contractors to keep things running smoothly during construction.
She holds several advanced certifications, including Adult and Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE‑A/P), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC), among others. She also serves on multiple hospital committees, including the Emergency Preparedness Team and the Sexual Assault Response Team.
For Kelsey, the most rewarding part of the job continues to be the people she works with.
“The team really is the highlight of the ED,” she said. “They’re knowledgeable, compassionate and incredibly dedicated. Even through the challenges of construction, they’ve continued to provide exceptional care.”
Outside of work, Kelsey enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Ben, and her French bulldog, Calvin, who she says has the funniest and biggest personality. She loves being in the sunshine, going fishing, and spending time with her family.
